Sir Robin Saxby, Chairman of ARM Holdings PLC, Officially Opens the AIMES Centre in Liverpool
AIMES (Advanced Internet Methods and Emergent Systems), a research and technology transfer centre of the University of Liverpool, is leading the deployment of advanced Internet technologies, and in particular grid computing, which will ensure that businesses in the region are at the forefront of computing capability.
In the two years since its inception AIMES has made a significant contribution to the local economy assisting over 60 businesses with advice on the benefits of advanced technologies and facilitating the creation and safeguarding of over 75 jobs. In addition to this the Centre has successfully spun out five new start-up businesses. This excellent progress is forecast to continue with increasing numbers of Merseyside and North West businesses working with the Centre to improve performance.
The AIMES Centre develops business models which allow storage- and processing-intensive computing tasks to be handled with relative ease through the use of next generation technologies, including grid computing. Efficiency savings are made possible through the analysis of computational problems that were previously too expensive to investigate.

Salford has a big, new vision – to make Central Salford the most beautiful part of Greater Manchester.
Creating a Prosperous Salford - Business Forum 25th August 2005, 4.00 pm – 7.00 pm Digital World Centre, Salford Quays
The plan brings tree-lined boulevards, stunning riverside developments and a commercial, corporate and retail heart to the city. The vision could become a reality within 20 years as older inner-city areas get high quality homes, great art and architecture, and most importantly new businesses. A Draft Vision and Regeneration Framework for Central Salford has been produced over the last few months working with an international consortium that includes some of the world’s most experienced inner city regeneration experts and internationally acclaimed architects. This Big Vision is now the subject of a citywide consultation exercise, and the views of the business community are essential in ensuring that we deliver a final framework that will support existing businesses and create a climate in which new companies can flourish. Therefore, we are hosting an exclusive event for you as a local business to share with you the latest information about this Big Vision and seek your views. The event is taking place at the Digital World Centre and is hosted by the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company and organised by The University of Salford. At the event we will present the recently launched draft vision in detail and welcome your comments and suggestions. A buffet and refreshments will be served. If you would like to attend this event please email your name and organisation contact details to www.centralsalford.com to register online. If you have any further queries, please contact Gemma Coupe on 0161 295 2667.
We very much look forward to seeing you at the event. Yours sincerely,
Felicity Goodey Chair of the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company
Please book your place by August 18th 2005
